Chinh Doan

Chinh's curiosity for the world and journalism started when she moved to the United States from Vietnam at the age of four. Chinh's father worked for The Oklahoman newspaper as a custodian and brought home scraps of newspapers every day. Chinh read the articles because she thought her father was a journalist. It was through journalism and television news that Chinh learned English and excelled in reading classes. Although she later learned her father was not a journalist, Chinh knew that with hard work and a passion to help others, she could become one. Chinh received her B.A. in broadcast journalism and minors in Spanish and International Studies from the University of Oklahoma, where she was named the "Outstanding Senior" of her college and gave the graduation speech. Chinh's other passion is giving back to the community. She has been honored with awards such as: Top Outstanding Young Americans, Ten Outstanding Young Omahans, Young Catholic Professionals Omaha Spirit Awards and more.

Journalist

Chinh has witnessed personally the impact of journalism and its ability to help and change people for the better. Chinh's knowledge of several languages and unique background help her play an active role in the community as a voice for the voiceless. Chinh is currently an anchor and reporter for KETV NewsWatch 7 (ABC), where she has covered hundreds of stories for the past five years in Omaha, NE and Southwest Iowa. Previously, Chinh reported for KWTX News 10 (CBS) in Central Texas, including Fort Hood, covering several topics such as crime trends, military issues, economic growth and more. She has also worked as a freelance video journalist covering tornado recovery efforts in Oklahoma. Chinh's work has allowed her to serve others with high journalistic values: integrity, responsibility, compassion and transparency. Other journalism experience includes politics, investigations and issues in immigration, education and public safety. 

Producer

Chinh has the ability to lead, follow and work in front of or behind the camera. She has experience in producing her own print, web and television stories, along with leading large groups in live and long-form productions in a studio and on the road. Her previous work includes assisting ABC News with coverage of wild fires, tornadoes and more. One of Chinh's biggest producing roles was been leading a team in a documentary about the only living set of WWII identical twin fighter pilots. She organized interviews and production shoots in five states and even the "World's Greatest Aviation Celebration" in Oshkosh, WI. Chinh's experience as a multimedia journalist, news producer and field producer, along with her open-mindedness, respect for others and diligence, makes her an invaluable asset to any news organization or production team.

Storyteller

People and storytelling are Chinh's passions. Chinh enjoys getting to know people and why they have become who they are today, their goals and how they relate to society. She has interviewed people from all backgrounds--from kids to 86-year-old identical twins, to politicians and celebrities, to ordinary people with extraordinary stories, like a mother of 11 who returns to college after 30 years.  Chinh's patience, compassion and understanding have opened doors to great interviews, such as Elizabeth Smart, Wolfgang Puck, Andrew Jenks and many others, all with great life stories and experiences. She's proud to be a life learner, excited to process each day's news to share with the world. Chinh also enjoys professional development and various training to help her grow in the art of storytelling. Chinh hopes to one day write a book about her personal story and the many incredible people who have helped her, changed her for the better and inspired her to be the best version of herself and storyteller she can be.
